The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Korea is stepping up its game to boost the console market in the country. They’re aiming to shake things up in the video game industry by shifting away from the mobile and online platforms, and focusing more on increasing console sales with the help of local producers.
Console Market Revitalization Plan
Korea currently only holds a small 1.5% slice of the global console market pie, which is dominated by Europe and the United States with a whopping 40% share. The Korean ministry is determined to change this narrative and boost their presence in the console gaming world.
Collaboration with Big Players
In the next five years, the Ministry plans to team up with gaming giants like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo to develop new and exciting video games. This partnership will not only benefit established producers but also support indie studios in Korea, paving the way for a more diverse and thriving gaming scene in the country.
