Microsoft Gaming has laid off around 2,000 employees from ZeniMax, Xbox, and Activision Blizzard teams. Mike Ybarra and Allen Adham, the president and founder of Activision Blizzard, are among the departures. The cancellation of Project Odyssey was also announced, as Microsoft Gaming aims to focus on sequels rather than new projects. The development of Odyssey began in 2017 with the Unreal Engine but faced challenges in creating maps for up to 100 players. Despite hopes of returning to Unreal after Microsoft’s acquisition, the release of any new projects from Blizzard may not happen until 2026.
