In a time when a console like the €799 PS5 Pro is on the market, it’s not hard to believe that the next generation will bring even more significant technological advancements with a higher price tag from Microsoft and PlayStation.
Next-Gen Consoles: What to Expect
Moore’s Law is Dead, a reliable unofficial source for new console specs, reveals that Microsoft is teaming up with AMD to incorporate the “Magnus” processor in their next console. This will make it the most powerful console ever, surpassing the PS6, but it could come with a hefty price tag of €1000 when it releases in 2027. The Magnus chip is a massive 408 mm², the largest ever in a console, 46% bigger than the PS6’s Orion. It’s designed more like a PC chip, blurring the lines between console and PC gaming.
Xbox: A Hybrid Device?
The Magnus CPU includes 3 Zen 6 Cores and 8 Zen 6C, with a 12MB L3 cache. The GPU features 70 RDNA 5 compute units, with 2 disabled, 4 Shader engines, and a 24MB L2 cache. With a power consumption of up to 350W, it’s shaping up to be a gaming powerhouse. There are speculations that the new Xbox could be a hybrid device, leaning more towards a PC, competing with gaming PCs rather than the PS6. If these specs hold true, it could mean a much higher price tag.
With these leaked specs, the future Xbox may arrive in 2027 as a console-PC hybrid, priced well above €800 and potentially reaching €1000.
