AMD’s Latest Graphics Cards: RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT
AMD’s latest desktop graphics cards based on RDNA 3, the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT, present a strategic opportunity for the company to gain market share from Nvidia in the mid-range sector of the graphics card market. The RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070 from Nvidia face competition from AMD’s offerings, with the RX 7800 XT providing a strong alternative to the RTX 4070 at a lower price point.
Specifications and Performance
The AMD RX 7800 XT, priced at $499/£479, offers competitive performance compared to the RTX 4070, with a lower price point and increased VRAM. On the other hand, the RX 7700 XT at $449/£429 offers less performance than its higher-end counterpart, the RX 7800 XT, with a decrease in VRAM allocation. This pricing strategy by AMD puts pressure on Nvidia in the mid-range graphics card segment.
GPU Architecture and Efficiency
Both the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT are based on a single Navi 32 GPU, with the former having 60 fully activated CUs and the latter utilizing 54 CUs. Despite the difference in CUs, these cards aim to deliver performance comparable to the previous generation’s RX 6800 XT and 6700 XT. The design of the cards, with variations in cooling solutions and power inputs, caters to different preferences and compatibility requirements.
