The New Year of 2024 has a tough task ahead, following up on an absolutely memorable year. 2023 will be remembered as one of the best ever in terms of top-quality releases, and as we wait for another 12 months filled with new games, we are here once again to talk about the most promising launches in a new galaxy of luxury names.
Xbox Game Studios will return in 2024 with Hellblade 2, South of Midnight, Towerborne, Avowed, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 as their main headliners, aiding their ambitions to achieve an even greater pace of releases developed by their in-house studios. With the help of Activision Blizzard and Bethesda, they are positioned for another year of incredible potential and surprises are expected.
PlayStation enters a new year very thinly, with only three titles currently: The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Rise of the Ronin, and MLB: The Show 24, on the list of projects developed internally or with the support of their studios. Will it be a repeat of 2023, and is what we know on the first day of the year basically all there is to know?
Nintendo had The Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, and Super Mario Bros. in 2023, a year without Pokémon and without a new console. This makes 2024 an even more exciting year for fans of the Japanese company. Will we have a new console? Which series will be responsible for carrying it at launch? For now, Another Code: Recollection, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and the game of Princess Peach stand out for Nintendo.
This new year of 2024 promises to highlight the role of major developers in our lives. Throughout the year, we spend a lot of time with games from developers like Square Enix, Ubisoft, Capcom, Remedy Entertainment, and others, something that will be repeated. Whether with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Tekken 8, Granblue Fantasy ReLink, Persona 3 Reload, Visions of Mana, Metaphor: ReFantazio, The First Descendant, or Zenless Zone Zero. There is immense third-party potential for 2024.
In addition to this, we will have unexpected names, of still unknown talent. Whether through examples like the Chinese Black Myth: Wukong or the Korean Stellar Blade (not yet confirmed), we are witnessing the birth of high-quality projects coming from places that are taking their first steps in AAA productions for consoles.
In this article, we return to the ungrateful task of choosing three of our most desired games for the new year. It would be easy to create a list with 10 or 20 names and still feel like an important one was left out, but we decided to choose only 3 to make everything much more difficult.
### Vitor’s Most Desired Games
– **The Plucky Squire** – When I read the first information about this indie production from All Possible Futures, I felt an irresistible appeal. The narrative construction seems to lead to new and unfathomable spaces, representative of comic book stories and fantasy books. There is also the construction of the world in 2D and 3D, with guaranteed constant passages from the book world to the real world. It is one of the games I am most looking forward to playing next year.
– **The Alters** – A production by the Polish 11 Bit Studios (founded by former members of CD Project), The Alters is a space survival game. There is a lot of interesting material here, appealing not only from a visual and aesthetic point of view but also from the narrative construction, based on the creation of various personalities of the same person, condensed into different jobs. I am eagerly awaiting this game, with high expectations and getting me interested in the final result.
– **Where Winds Meet** – I have high expectations for this Chinese production by Everstone Studios. If many games originating in China have not yet penetrated certain segments, it is due to state censorship. Where Winds Meet seems to be the game capable of breaking the rule. Inspired by ancient China, this open-world adventure set in the era of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms is based on a good narrative construction, constant battles, and exploration. It’s impossible not to be enchanted by the beauty of the game.
Adolfo’s Most Desired Games
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 – The journey has been long and challenging since it was announced in late 2019. Since then, updates have been scarce, which only increases the anticipation surrounding what Ninja Theory has been working so diligently on. The original work had an innovative character, capable of providing players with a deeply personal experience and making the character an extension of our own consciousness. This prolonged silence contributes to increasing the growing anticipation, and I am truly intrigued to discover the new ways the studio has found to involve us in this next chapter.
- Silent Hill 2 – The truth is that I am once again facing another return of a symbol of horror and survival games, another remake. It may seem like a systematic trend, but I see these reimaginings of iconic works that marked a generation as events to be celebrated. The new approach presented by Bloober Team promises to be another one of those memorable moments, destined to introduce a work that, in a way, defined the genre and set the standard for everything that followed. It is an opportunity to not only reward long-time fans but also to captivate new audiences with the unique essence that this classic work embodies. Although the release date has not yet been set, I remain hopeful that 2024 will be the year when we can experience this long-awaited revitalization. Hopefully, it will once again haunt and delight all those passionate about digital horror.
- Death Stranding 2 – This is another intriguing title on the waiting list for 2024, and like many others, the release date is uncertain. However, it is a game that has already become essential on my agenda. The first title reached a remarkable level of excellence, always accompanied by heated controversies, typical of a creation by the genius Hideo Kojima. Many label it as a “walking simulator,” but for those who deeply experienced its dynamics, it is one of those moments in video games that transcend the ordinary, leaving a lasting mark on the industry’s history. I await the second part with intense anticipation, with the bar set high, hoping that Kojima not only meets but exceeds my expectations. This is a chapter that promises not only to be a game but an experience that will shape the direction and trajectory of the video game industry.

Little Nightmares III – Little Nightmares has become one of my favorite game series, and after two absolutely stellar games, I eagerly await the third installment. The change in studios worries me a bit, I admit, but I hope that the team at Supermassive Games lives up to its predecessors. I’ve only seen the original trailer for Little Nightmares III and have since avoided all game content to avoid spoilers – just to show you my level of commitment!
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake – If I enjoyed No Way Out and was absolutely dazzled by It Takes Two, I almost feel obligated to play Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake. I haven’t had the chance to play the original yet, but it will be interesting to enter this world with enhanced graphics and, perhaps, the possibility of playing online with other people. I’m counting on you, Josef Fares!
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown – Perilous platforms? Check. Devastating enemies? Check. Deadly traps? Check. The Lost Crown seems to have all the ingredients that make these games so addictive, and the metroidvania style plus Ubisoft’s big budget make me even more eager to play it. This new entry seems challenging and fun in equal measure, and fortunately, I don’t have to wait much longer to play it.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth – The second part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is presented as a colossal-scale game, capable of lasting over 100 hours. Considering the role of the original in my life, not to mention how much I loved the first part, I can’t help but feel incredibly excited about this game. The creators mention The Witcher 3 as the inspiration and talk about a very interesting approach to optional content. Thinking about the original, the locations we will visit here, the events that are coming, and this new scale, I’m counting the days like when I was a child.
Rise of the Ronin – I love Ninja Gaiden, NiOh, and Wo Long, I love Team Ninja. Thinking about an action RPG that takes the masocore essence of NiOh and transports it to the open world is extremely exciting. Whether it has the potential to elevate Team Ninja to a new level, I don’t know, but maybe this will be their new big moment.
No Rest for the Wicked – I was torn between Dragon’s Dogma 2 and No Rest for the Wicked, but the talent of Moon Studios in the two Ori games motivated me to choose it as one of the most anticipated games of the next year. Developed as an Action RPG with the Moon Studios aesthetic and inspired by classics like The Legend of Zelda, it has everything to be one of the brightest moments of 2024.
As I clicked play on the YouTube video, I was immediately drawn into the world of gaming. The cover image displayed a captivating scene, enticing me to explore further. The video started, and I was transported into a virtual realm filled with excitement and adventure.
The graphics were stunning, with every detail meticulously crafted to immerse the viewer in the game’s universe. The characters moved fluidly, and the sound effects added depth to the overall experience. I found myself on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what would happen next.
As the video came to an end, I was left craving more. The thrill of the game had captured my imagination, leaving me yearning to dive deeper into this captivating world of gaming. I knew that I had just scratched the surface of what this game had to offer, and I couldn’t wait to explore further.
