IO Interactive Reevaluates Publishing Plans
IO Interactive is reassessing its strategy to act as a game publisher for partners, following the negative reception of MindsEye. The game, developed by Build a Rocket Boy, became a low point in 2025, prompting the company to reconsider its support for games from external developers.
The Impact of MindsEye Backlash
CEO Hakan Abrak revealed, “The initial discussions with them were about providing support. We believed in their ideas and the unique world they were creating, hoping to showcase more of it in the future. Our intention was simply to assist in distributing the game.” However, the collaboration with Leslie Benzies’ project, well-known in the GTA community, did not unfold as expected, leading to a difficult situation for IOI.
Abrak acknowledged the challenges faced and expressed optimism for IOI Partners to bounce back. Despite the setback, he emphasized the team’s dedication to producing quality content and regaining players’ trust. Nevertheless, the future of IOI Partners remains uncertain following the fallout with Build a Rocket Boy.
