EA PC Application Censors Name of New Game
Several users of the EA PC application have discovered that the name Arc Raiders is being automatically censored in the platform’s chat system. When the game’s name is typed, the characters are replaced by hashtags, something that does not happen with other competing games such as Call of Duty, Fortnite, Escape from Tarkov, or Marathon.
Questions Raised Over Censorship Selectivity
The issue was reported by a user on Reddit, who posted a video demonstrating the restriction. Tests were conducted with different ways of writing the name, including “ARC Raiders” and “ARC Raiders: The Last Stand,” but the filter remained active. However, other games from the same developer, such as The Finals, also produced by Embark Studios, did not experience the same problem, raising questions about the selectivity of the censorship.
Possible Friction Between Companies
The discovery was made at a time when EA is heavily focused on promoting Battlefield 6, which is also set to be released in the fall. The game will have an early beta version starting on August 7 and an open beta two days later. The proximity between the releases and the historical connection between the individuals behind Arc Raiders and EA may be behind the situation, although the company has not made any official comments.
