Obsidian Entertainment is working on Avowed, one of Microsoft Gaming’s most promising epics, developed by a team led by Ryan Warden and Matt Hansen as director of production and art director, respectively.
During Gamescom, the duo not only presented the game but also showcased gameplay sessions to various media outlets. One of these was Windows Central, who asked about the revelation that the game runs at 30fps on Xbox consoles.
While not confirming specific numbers, Hansen mentioned, “We are very focused on polishing the content we have and, at the same time, working on performance, as that comes last… so, a lot of that stuff is hard to pinpoint at this time.”
As a single-player first-person game, Hansen believes that 60fps is not essential, and assures players not to worry about performance on Xbox Series X.
“We are developing for Xbox and PC simultaneously, but honestly, one of the things that surprised me the most was that, very early in development, we realized that it often performs better on Xbox Series X than on PC,” shared Hansen.
Obsidian is very confident about Avowed on Xbox Series X, but cannot commit to the same level of performance on Series S at the moment.
“The console runs Avowed very, very well. We haven’t faced many specific challenges on Xbox. We are still trying to figure out the specifications for Xbox Series S, as it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles in the backend, but we have a very talented team of engineers.”
