Yusuke Tomizawa, the general producer of the Tales of franchise, recently discussed the challenges they are facing in creating remasters of classic games from the series. He explained why they are unable to release the games in their original order during a conversation at the Tokyo Game Show 2025.
Bandai Namco is working on producing and releasing more remasters to bring back classic games that many fans do not have access to. This is especially crucial as series like Tales of are reaching their 30th anniversary milestone.
However, there are various obstacles in the process. Tomizawa highlighted the difficulties in locating the original code and determining who is managing it. With multiple studios having worked on the series over the years, finding the original data can be a challenge. Additionally, once the data is found, it may have flaws that require months of analysis to resolve.
To address these challenges, Bandai Namco is working on multiple remaster projects simultaneously. Employees are prioritizing projects based on the production time needed to complete the games.
Tomizawa mentioned that while it would have been ideal to release the remasters in chronological order, the priority is to release them at a steady pace. Therefore, they are focusing on completing the projects that can be finished more quickly.
