The Electronic Arts has announced that Battlefield 6 will introduce its own Battle Royale mode, currently undergoing testing through the Battlefield Labs program. This marks the first time the series is fully embracing the Battle Royale genre, following previous attempts like Firestorm in Battlefield V that did not continue. The objective is to gather feedback from selected players to assess the new mechanics and determine how well the formula can be integrated into the Battlefield experience.
Mode and Mechanics
The mode, as described by the publisher, combines classic elements of the series such as classes, team combat, vehicles, and destruction in a match designed for 100 players, divided into 25 teams of four. The map has been specifically created for this mode, allowing tactical destruction to open new routes or bring down structures.
The development of this mode has been entrusted to Ripple Effect Studios, which has been involved in the Battle Royale project since the initial announcements about Battlefield 6. The testing phase is part of the Battlefield Labs validation cycle and will be used to gather feedback from participants.
The decision to include 100 players and features like the instant-killing ring indicates a format that aims to balance large-scale battles with a gameplay pace that avoids stagnant areas. The inability to switch classes during the game makes team preparation crucial, while missions and loot types appear to encourage active exploration and control of strategic points on the map.
The EA plans to release more details following an analysis of the feedback received during the Battlefield Labs tests.
