BioWare has just dropped a bombshell – Anthem will be closing its doors for good on January 12, 2026. That’s right, the servers will be shutting down, meaning the game will no longer be accessible online. But fear not, until that fateful day, you can still jump into the game and play as usual.
In a move that’s making waves, BioWare has also stopped the sale of premium currency in the game since July. However, if you’ve got some currency lying around, you can still use it until the shutdown date. And if you’re a part of EA Play or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, take note – Anthem will be removed from these services on August 15, 2025. But don’t worry, if you’ve already got the game, you can keep playing until the servers go dark.
Anthem had a rocky road since its release in 2019, with technical glitches and a lack of content drawing criticism. Despite efforts to revamp the game with “Anthem Next,” BioWare ultimately pulled the plug in 2021 to focus on their other big franchises like Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
So, mark your calendars, folks – January 12, 2026, is the day when Anthem will fade into the gaming history books. But until then, grab your Javelin and enjoy the game while you still can. And to all the loyal fans out there, BioWare wants to express their heartfelt thanks for your support over the years. Here’s to the memories!
