Analysis of Concord: A Disappointing Project
Concord, a new shooter game released by PlayStation, has sparked disappointment among players and critics alike. In a market saturated with similar games, Concord failed to stand out despite the company’s reputation for delivering great single-player experiences. With its basic science fiction theme and lack of promotion, it was destined for failure.

As a 5v5 hero shooter, Concord follows a familiar gameplay style seen in games like Overwatch and Marvel’s Rivals. With a variety of characters each offering unique abilities, the game takes place in fast-paced, intricate arenas.
Development Challenges and Lack of Innovation
Despite an 8-year development cycle, Concord fails to impress with only 16 characters, 12 maps, and 6 modes available. The game lacks innovation and feels generic, missing the mark in offering a unique gaming experience. The game’s characters, although diverse in abilities, do not bring anything new to the table, leaving players feeling uninspired.

Mixed Gameplay Experience and Visual Appeal
While Concord offers moments of fun and strategy with its diverse hero selection, the overall gameplay experience falls short of expectations. The game’s visuals, however, receive praise for their vibrant colors, stunning lighting effects, and captivating landscapes. Despite initial technical issues, the game runs smoothly, providing an immersive visual experience for players.

Concord’s future remains uncertain, with concerns raised about its storytelling, character development, and overall gameplay quality. As the developers work on expanding the game’s universe and enhancing its features, players eagerly await improvements that will elevate Concord from its current disappointing state.

With a peak of 697 players on Steam, the future of Concord is uncertain. Matchmaking was smooth when crossplay was enabled, but restricting gameplay to PC players resulted in long wait times. It is possible that Concord has a larger player base on the PS5 console, which remains to be seen if PlayStation shares any data on this matter.
The enjoyment I experienced with Concord was minimal, leading me to question if a free-to-play model would have altered its fate, as opposed to the current price of €39.99. While the absence of microtransactions in a game of this genre is refreshing, the lack of a unique attraction to captivate players proved to be detrimental.
If Concord fails to gain traction shortly after its release, it will likely struggle to do so in the future without significant changes from Firewalk. There is speculation that Concord may have originated as a different project, possibly a space adventure game, before evolving into its final form. Regardless of what lies ahead, the launch of Concord will be remembered as one of PlayStation’s most disastrous.
