Yesterday, George Miller, the renowned director of the Mad Max saga, expressed dissatisfaction with the adaptation of Fury Road into a video game, stating that it did not meet his expectations. During the same interview, Miller mentioned his desire for a visionary like Hideo Kojima to undertake the task of adapting Mad Max into a video game.
Avalanche Studios, the developers behind the Mad Max: Fury Road video game adaptation, responded critically to Miller’s remarks. Christofer Sundberg, co-founder of Avalanche Studios, dismissed Miller’s comments as baseless and indicative of arrogance. Sundberg explained that the development process was constrained to a linear format despite their initial vision of an open-world game. He emphasized that while Hideo Kojima could undoubtedly create an exceptional Mad Max game, it would result in a fundamentally distinct gaming experience.
Sundberg further elaborated in a follow-up comment, revealing that the development team had been compelled to pivot towards a linear approach after a year of work, as the prevailing belief was that contemporary players favored autonomy.
