The British studio The Chinese Room breaks away from Sumo Digital and goes solo
The British studio The Chinese Room has officially separated from Sumo Digital and is now operating independently. The change was made through an acquisition by the management team, allowing the studio to regain control of its creative decisions and focus on new original projects.
Back to Independence
With the company’s purchase by its managers now completed, The Chinese Room will operate once again as an independent studio based in the UK. According to director Ed Daly, this decision allows the studio to maintain focus on creating original intellectual properties, but also collaborate on other projects when it makes sense for the team.
Exciting Projects Ahead
One of the studio’s most recent works was Still Wakes the Deep, released in 2024 and awarded at the BAFTA with the New Intellectual Property award, as well as winning in two performance categories. The studio’s next title is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which is being developed in partnership with the publisher Paradox Interactive. The Chinese Room has also confirmed that they have two more original projects in production.
