Johan Pilestedt Takes a Break from Arrowhead Game Studios
After dedicating 11 years to the Helldivers series, Johan Pilestedt, creative director of Arrowhead Game Studios, announced that he will be taking a break from his activities to focus on his family and friends. He plans to return later to start the studio’s next project.
Helldivers 2 Success and Pilestedt’s Views on Diversity in Games
The release of Helldivers 2 in February 2024 was a massive success, with over 12 million units sold by May of the same year, making it Sony’s biggest PC release to date.
Pilestedt recently shared his thoughts on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies in video games. He believes that these elements should enhance the gaming experience and not hinder it. According to him, games should focus on providing amazing moments for players.
While Pilestedt is on his break, support for Helldivers 2 will continue, and Arrowhead Game Studios is currently involved in the game’s film adaptation, albeit in a limited capacity due to the production team’s lack of experience in Hollywood.
As for the future of Arrowhead, Pilestedt mentioned that upon his return, he will begin working on the studio’s next game. However, specific details about the project have not yet been revealed.
