Thunderbolts: Disney’s Potential Box Office Flop
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts could be the next film in which Disney fails to recoup its investment. The movie hit theaters on May 1st, where it has already grossed $370 million, but it is now in a downward phase, with more recent releases enjoying greater popularity and visibility. At best, it is expected to end its theatrical run with $400 million in earnings.
Financial Struggles
According to TotalFilm’s numbers, Thunderbolts is a $500 million investment, an amount that Disney needed to recover in order to start making a profit. This figure seems to be out of reach in the coming weeks.
Starring Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, and Lewis Pullman, Thunderbolts has garnered praise from critics and fans alike. However, its box office results have not lived up to expectations, falling short of the $415 million earned by Captain America: Brave New World, a film with much lower critical averages.
