Elon Musk, the billionaire known as CEO of Tesla, owner of the social network X, and future member of Donald Trump’s cabinet in his next presidency of the United States, used his social network to speak out against what he calls “woke propaganda” in art. Recently, several media outlets had the opportunity to play Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment, part of Microsoft Gaming, which allowed them to share gameplay and discover that the team included pronouns in the game. Musk used this as an example of what he considers “woke propaganda” that harms art. Musk commented that “having pronouns in a fantasy video game is completely unacceptable” and this has attracted a certain type of attention to Avowed that will surely generate discussion in the coming months. However, Musk did not stop there, he is also making headlines due to recent comments that he has decided to reinforce. “Stop killing art with woke propaganda,” Musk commented in response to sharing a video in which, on October 20, 2024, he publicly expressed something similar. In that October video, we can hear Musk declaring, “It’s really annoying when a game is interrupted by woke DEI nonsense. I’m thinking, ‘Jesus, I was playing a video game here.’ Can you leave video games alone? Don’t you want to do things that harm art?” Musk didn’t stop there and shortly after decided to respond “yes” to a message in which Mario Nawfal uses the examples of Concord and Dustborn to write that “no one wants to play woke games.”
