Epic Games acquires Mediatonic
Epic Games acquired Mediatonic in 2021, largely due to the immense success of Fall Guys. However, reports emerged that the majority of employees were laid off as part of this new wave of layoffs that will result in over 870 people losing their jobs.
This raised concerns about the future of Fall Guys, as Jason Schreier of Bloomberg reported that most of Mediatonic’s 300 employees were among those selected for dismissal. Epic Games reacted and responded to VGC that this simply isn’t true.
“This is false. Mediatonic’s work on Fall Guys remains a priority for the company,” said a representative of Epic Games to VGC.
Financial Challenges and Layoffs
Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, told employees that for a long time they had been spending more money than they were making, whether to evolve Epic or to make Fortnite grow. Despite hoping to go through this without laying off anyone, they realized it’s not possible.
Despite efforts to reduce costs, the company was spending more money than it should, and now employees will pay the price because only this way, according to Epic’s leadership, they will be able to stabilize finances.
