There was a surprise at the Tokyo Game Show 2025: Resident Evil Requiem appeared to be running on the Switch 2 and left many people speechless. Even the Capcom team thought it might not work so well, since the Nintendo console is not synonymous with raw power. But the demonstration proved otherwise, as the game ran perfectly and without any errors.
The Secret Behind the Success
Director Koshi Nakanishi said the secret lies in the RE Engine, the graphic engine that Capcom has been using for years. The RE Engine was built to adapt to both more powerful machines and more modest systems. It is this flexibility that allowed the game to run so well on the Switch 2.
Producer Masato Kumazawa added that, at the fair, the public had the opportunity to test the game not only on the new Nintendo console, but also on laptops. On PC there are new features: support for NVIDIA’s DLSS 4, with multi-frame generation and even path tracing.
The Potential for Future Games
To start, this game was created to be highly scalable. We developed it by adjusting various options to make it compatible with a wide range of specifications, from the highest to the relatively low, so that the Switch 2 could be optimized to fit the specifications quite easily. We didn’t try to force something designed for high performance to run slower, but we assumed a variety of specification conditions in advance. Even we were surprised when we first saw how well it ran. I think it was thanks to the hard work of the engineering team that it ran so well.
The demonstration left us with an interesting idea: if Resident Evil Requiem worked well on the Switch 2, perhaps other big games could also come to the console without losing so much quality. Source.
