Microsoft Increases Xbox Console Prices in the US
Microsoft has announced that starting on October 3, the prices of Xbox consoles in the US will be raised once again. The Series X will cost an additional $50, the 2 TB version will see a $70 increase, and even the Series S will have a $20 price hike. So far this year, the Series S has gone up by $100, the Series X by $150, and the 2 TB Series X has skyrocketed by $200.
Profit Over Tariffs
There have been speculations about the new US tariffs being the reason behind the price increase, but Mike Ybarra, former president of Blizzard, disagrees with this explanation. In a post on X, he stated: “It’s not tariff issues, it’s profit issues.”
Ybarra believes that while the initial price hike may have been influenced by tariffs, the subsequent increase is more about Microsoft prioritizing profits over anything else. He argues that Microsoft is using tariffs as an excuse to keep raising prices and transferring their financial issues onto gamers.
Continued Price Hikes
“Yes. And tariffs went up once so that does justify the single price increase. An excuse to continue raising prices, with no new increase in tariffs, is simply a different problem and they are going to make consumers continue to pay for those problems.”
