A Minecraft Movie is a huge success at the box office, where it managed to break records by becoming the best opening for a video game adaptation.
The Minecraft Movie grossed $157 million in its opening weekend in the United States, surpassing the $146 million of Super Mario Bros. The Movie, making it the best opening ever for a film adapting a video game.
Internationally, the Minecraft Movie grossed $301 million, falling short of Super Mario’s $377 million, but still approximately $60 million above the most optimistic predictions.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the Minecraft Movie has an audience score of 87%, much higher than the 48% from critics.
