Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the owner of Rockstar Games and GTA, knows that many are looking at the arrival of GTA 6 in 2026 and pointing out a 13-year gap from GTA 5. However, he reminds us that Rockstar Games has not been idle during this time, but has been working on Grand Theft Auto Online.
Zelnick emphasizes that Rockstar Games has been consistently releasing content for GTA Online over the years to keep the game alive and players entertained, with some of the content being equivalent to a standalone game. In an interview where he talked about the importance of creating successful games that are played for longer periods to generate more revenue per game, Zelnick mentioned that Rockstar has been delivering GTAs regularly.
“In the case of Grand Theft Auto, we have Grand Theft Auto Online and Rockstar has been providing content for GTA Online, some of which is so robust that if we go back 15 years, it would have been considered a standalone title,” Zelnick told The Game Business. He also mentioned that one could argue that Rockstar has been releasing a new GTA a couple of times a year through the content provided to GTA Online players, who continue to enjoy huge success after so many years.
Take-Two aims to deliver hits to players, games that keep them entertained for a long time, requiring dedicated teams to create more content, which Rockstar has been doing since 2014.
