AI Adoption in Japanese Video Game Studios
More than half of Japanese video game studios are already incorporating AI into their game development processes, as reported by CESA, the organization behind the Tokyo Games Show.
AI is being utilized for various tasks such as creating images, characters, texts, and assisting in programming. Some studios are even exploring the use of AI in developing their own game engines. Major players like Capcom, Konami, FromSoftware, Square Enix, and Sega are among those embracing AI, along with independent studios.
Noteworthy examples include Square Enix testing AI in Foamstars, Level-5 experimenting with Stable Diffusion, and Capcom also delving into AI. Sega has gone a step further by establishing a dedicated AI team.
However, not all studios are fully onboard with this trend. Nintendo, for instance, remains cautious and prioritizes maintaining its unique approach to game development, as highlighted by Shigeru Miyamoto.
Future Outlook for AI in Japanese Game Studios
While the final report is yet to be released, it is evident that AI has already become an integral part of Japanese studios’ workflows and is likely to further permeate the industry in the years ahead.
