Microsoft suspends automatic release of Windows 11 24H2 update for PCs with Ubisoft games
Microsoft has temporarily suspended the automatic release of the Windows 11 24H2 update for PCs with some Ubisoft games installed. This decision was made after reports of compatibility issues affecting several titles, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Star Wars Outlaws.
Users have experienced problems ranging from black screens to issues with games freezing during startup or gameplay.
Temporary Fix and Collaboration
To prevent further issues, Microsoft has implemented a “compatibility hold,” which blocks the update on devices with the affected games. The company advised users not to manually force the update through tools like the Windows 11 Installation Assistant until a fix is available.
Ubisoft has already implemented a temporary fix for Star Wars Outlaws but acknowledges that the solution is not comprehensive and that performance issues may persist until a permanent update is released.
The cause of the incompatibility is still unknown, although some reports suggest conflicts with anti-cheat software or other system components. This issue is not isolated, as Microsoft has also had issues with other games and applications using older software versions. Developers and Microsoft are working together to address these flaws.
For now, players are encouraged to stay tuned for updates from Ubisoft and Microsoft and to postpone updating their systems if they have these games.
