Microsoft Gaming, a major game publisher, sees high pre-order numbers on PlayStation Store for PS5, but sales figures tell a different story
A recent report from Alinea Analytics reveals that while Microsoft Gaming’s games often dominate pre-order lists, actual sales numbers are underwhelming. According to the report, as of March 26, 2025, the five Microsoft Gaming titles released on PS5 and PS4 have sold less than 2.4 million units combined. Sea of Thieves accounts for the majority of these sales, with close to 2 million units sold in 11 months.
Unexpectedly, lesser-known titles like Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment have only sold around 150,000 units combined, despite positive reception online. The sales breakdown is as follows:
– Sea of Thieves: 1.8 million units
– Grounded: 436,500 units
– Hi-Fi Rush: 137,300 units
– Age of Mythology Retold: 41,000 units
– Pentiment: 14,000 units
These figures highlight the discrepancy between pre-order hype and actual sales for Microsoft Gaming titles on PlayStation platforms.
