Capcom is getting ready to say goodbye to Leon S. Kennedy from the Resident Evil series with the upcoming Requiem, set to release at the end of February for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series.
According to the well-known DuskGolem, an unofficial source with a track record of revealing horror game details, Resident Evil 9: Requiem will be the final numbered installment in the series. This will mark the conclusion of the overarching storyline involving Umbrella and Racoon City, wrapping up all narrative threads that have been present since Resident Evil Zero, in chronological order.
The aim is to start a new era where players won’t need prior knowledge of past games or events, with the possibility of releasing games that are not directly connected in terms of narrative.
DuskGolem claims to have insider information that several members of the press have already played a demo of Resident Evil Requiem, allowing them to share their thoughts as early as August 20, just one day after the game is showcased at the Gamescom opening event. The game will focus on Leon and Grace as a grand farewell to Leon, but both characters will play significant roles.
In terms of gameplay, new elements have been introduced in Requiem that haven’t been seen in previous Resident Evil titles. Players can expect larger scale areas, including Raccoon City, which can be explored with a vehicle, possibly a motorcycle.
Additionally, combat with Leon has been revamped with significant improvements, incorporating mechanics and controls that may bring to mind The Last of Us: Part 2, along with fresh ideas from Capcom.
