Mafia: The Old Country is the newest installment in the Mafia series, taking players on a cinematic journey to the roots of organized crime. Set in the fictional city of San Celeste in Sicily during the early 20th century, the game follows the story of Enzo Favara, a young man who escapes a life of forced labor in sulfur mines and becomes involved with the criminal family of the Torrisi.
The ElAnalistaDeBits channel recently released a comparison video of Mafia: The Old Country on the PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series S/X, highlighting the differences in graphics and performance. The game offers two viewing modes on the more powerful consoles – Quality and Performance, while the Xbox Series S only has one mode.
Players on all platforms have the option to disable vsync to unlock the frame rate, with a maximum cap of 60 fps. In Performance mode, there are cuts in aspects like vegetation, shadows, rendering distance, lighting, resolution, terrain quality, and reflections. The PS5 Pro has less severe cuts compared to the PS5 in this mode, and maintains higher settings in Quality mode in areas such as rendering distance, lighting, terrain, and level of detail.
During testing, the PS5 outperformed the Xbox Series X, achieving 60 fps in Quality mode with slightly higher average resolution, despite slightly lower minimums. The Xbox Series S runs at lower settings than the other consoles in Performance mode and struggles to maintain a stable 30 fps. Overall, the game showcases solid optimization in Unreal Engine 5, even with lower rendering resolutions.
