Controversy Surrounding Eve’s Digital Body
The Stellar Blade game from the Korean company Shift Up has been gaining attention for its protagonist Eve, specifically the digital body created by the studio in collaboration with Korean model Shin Jae-eun, known for her work in magazines like Maxim Korea.
Maxim Korea Addresses the Backlash
Maxim Korea recently addressed the controversy surrounding Shift Up’s work, especially in response to criticism from Western media outlets. Following the release of the demo, more comments surfaced, with Maxim Korea highlighting IGN France’s critique, suggesting that only someone who has “never seen a woman” could create Eve and see it as acceptable.
“What defines a realistic body type? While it may be challenging to pinpoint, criticism over a ‘non-realistic’ body type has sparked a debate,” Najung states.
Shin Jae-eun’s Realistic Body
Discussing the Western criticisms of Eve with Korean audiences, Najung points out, “Eve’s character in the game is based on Shin Jae-eun, a model featured on Maxim’s cover. Can a character inspired by a real person’s body truly be labeled unrealistic?”
