Microsoft rumored to announce new wave of layoffs
According to various sources such as Bloomberg and TheVerge, Microsoft may announce a new wave of layoffs, potentially affecting the European operations of Xbox and even leading to the closure of game studios within the division.
Concerns among Xbox employees
Jason Schreier from Bloomberg reported that Microsoft is set to lay off more employees, with a significant impact on Xbox, while Tom Warren from The Verge mentioned layoffs in the sales department and the potential exit of Xbox from several European countries.
George Broussard, co-founder of 3D Realms and known for his work on Duke Nukem 3D, expressed his concern after hearing from Microsoft employees that there is a general feeling of anxiety and worry among Xbox studio workers about the upcoming layoffs.
He stated, “I heard entire studios could be dismantled. Expectations are between one thousand to two thousand people. I think the Xbox unit has close to ten thousand people, so 10 to 20%? Good luck to all involved. Brutal.”
