Even in the midst of a huge storm affecting the video game industry, with thousands of employees laid off in the past 12 months, the closure of Arkane Austin, TangoGameworks, and other Microsoft Gaming studios never fails to leave us speechless.
According to unofficial reports from IGN, thanks to our colleagues at Eurogamer, it seems that even Arkane Austin itself was caught off guard as they were working on updates for Redfall, which will not be completed. In 2023, Harvey Smith, director of Redfall, confirmed that they were working to remove the online requirement of the game. According to information from IGN, Arkane Austin had planned to release this update in May, allowing players to finally enjoy Redfall without server connection.
However, this work remains unfinished, as well as the additional Heroes internally planned for October 2024, just in time for Halloween, but they won’t even be introduced. Microsoft Gaming has halted all development of Redfall and will refund those who purchased the Bite Back edition or upgrade.
