During the recent Ubisoft Forward event, we finally got some updates on the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. In a tiny trailer shown during the event, it was revealed that the game will be released in 2026.
In an interview with the game’s producers published by Ubisoft after the event, some details about what we can expect from the long-awaited remake were shared.
According to Gaming Bolt, creative director Bio Jade Adam Granger mentioned that “sanctifying, respecting, modernizing, and adding” are the “four pillars” being used to “define everything in the game.”
Some aspects of the original game will be kept, such as the ability to run on walls, while other aspects will undergo changes to varying degrees, like level design, world scale, and how the game tackles challenges.
“We have things that remain as they are, like wall running, which is so iconic that we will try to combine it as much as we can. The dagger as well. There are core elements of the original recipe that we respect and sanctify: time powers, the tone of the game, and gravity-defying gameplay. But we modernize things like level design, for example, and really increase the scale of the world. We also ramp up the challenge a bit,” Granger states.
Another objective of the remake is to enhance the original game world, with the team stating that they have “multiplied the scale and wonder” of the Azad Palace.
The article also reveals that, since the original combat may be considered outdated for today’s players, there has been a modernity injection inspired by games like God of War and Dark Souls.
Do you think this remake is heading in the right direction?
