Pocketpair Studio is considering launching their popular game Palworld on the upcoming Nintendo console, the Switch 2, as long as it has the appropriate technical specifications. John Buckley, Pocketpair’s communications director, explained that the original version of the Switch does not have the necessary capacity to run Palworld efficiently, due to the game’s technical requirements. At the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Buckley mentioned that the team has not yet had access to the Switch 2 development hardware and therefore cannot confirm if the new console will be able to support Palworld. He said, “We haven’t seen those specifications yet. Like everyone else, we are waiting.”
Recent rumors suggest that the Switch 2 may feature an Nvidia Tegra T239 chip, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and a 7.5 to 8.4-inch screen, potentially supporting refresh rates of 120Hz. These improvements could make it feasible to run more demanding games, such as Palworld, on the new console.
Palworld gained attention before its release in January 2024 due to its similarities to Pokémon, leading to a legal dispute with The Pokémon Company over alleged patent infringement. Despite this, the game continues to receive updates, including new monsters, features, and cross-platform compatibility between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC versions.
As for the Switch 2, Nintendo has scheduled a Nintendo Direct presentation for April 2, 2025, where official details about the Switch 2 are expected to be revealed, including technical specifications and launch titles. This presentation may clarify whether the new console will have the necessary performance to support games like Palworld.
Palworld is currently available for PC, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The possibility of a version for the Switch 2 will depend on the final specifications of the console and Pocketpair’s ability to optimize the game for the new hardware.
