Peacemaker’s Connection to the DC Universe
Peacemaker is one of the few characters from the old DC universe in movies who has survived and made it to the new DC Studios universe. James Gunn, responsible for the series, previously mentioned that season 2 would explain this, but the explanation goes beyond that, giving us a clue for the next Superman movie.
The Introduction of the Justice Gang
At the end of the first season of Peacemaker, the protagonist encounters Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s Flash, but season 2 starts by showing that this scene took place in another universe. In the current version of the scene, Peacemaker doesn’t come across the two Justice League members, but rather the Justice Gang that appears in the Superman movie.
Implications for the Future Superman Movie
Contrary to what we see in James Gunn’s Superman movie, the Justice Gang is not composed of just the trio Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner, and Hawkgirl, but of 5 superheroes. In this first episode of Peacemaker season 2, the Justice Gang replaces the Justice League, with Superman and Supergirl also present. Recent comments from Gunn, along with this scene in Peacemaker season 2, suggest that the next Superman movie may indeed be about the Justice Gang.
Gunn recently mentioned that David Corenswet’s Superman would be returning soon in a “Superman Saga” movie, but not necessarily in Superman 2. The movie he is currently writing is a continuation of the universe, the life of Superman, but it will be a film about a group of characters, with Clark Kent being one of the most important pieces, but not the only one. This scene reinforces the feeling that Gunn is setting up the Justice Gang movie.
