Obsidian Entertainment Resolves Frame Rate Disparity in Pentiment
Resolution of Frame Rate Disparity
Obsidian Entertainment has successfully addressed the frame rate discrepancy in Pentiment. Initially an Xbox exclusive, the game is now also available on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Players noticed that there was a difference in frame rates between the platforms, with the PlayStation 5 version offering smooth gameplay at 120 fps, while the native Xbox Series X|S version was limited to 60 fps, much to the disappointment of Xbox players.
Director Josh Sawyer from Obsidian Entertainment promptly acknowledged the issue, explaining that the 120 fps limitation on Xbox Series X|S was an unintended error and not a deliberate design choice. He reassured players that a solution would be implemented in the upcoming update.
Updates Beyond Frame Rate
True to their promise, Obsidian Entertainment has now rolled out patch 1.3, which addresses the frame rate inconsistency across platforms. Xbox Series X|S players can now enjoy Pentiment at the same high quality of 120 fps as PlayStation 5 players.
However, the update goes beyond just fixing the frame rate issue. Obsidian also tackled various other issues and implemented improvements to enhance the overall gaming experience. These include fixing the high contrast accessibility option to display correctly, updating the PlayStation controller images, and renaming the Platinum Trophy to “PlatinumTrophy.”
Furthermore, players will notice a subtle change in the game menu icon on PlayStation and Switch. Previously featuring protagonist Andreas Maler, the icon now showcases the game’s cover art.
