Player in the UK starts petition to ban game deactivation
A player in the United Kingdom has decided to create a petition in hopes of gathering enough signatures to draw the government’s attention to the deactivation of video games.
Proposed update to consumer laws
The information in the petition, which will need to register 10,000 signatures to receive an official response from Parliament, states that authorities should update consumer laws to prohibit game developers and publishers from deactivating access to a video game or parts of it.
This proposal calls for an update to laws to assist players who lose access to content they have paid for, without any compensation or warning that they will lose features included in the purchase.
