During a lively chat with the press at Gamescom 2023, Phil Spencer was put on the spot by IGN, thanks to Kotaku, regarding the potential release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox consoles. Spencer played it cool, stating that it’s all up to Square Enix to set the tempo.
“I get it, folks want to know if their favorite games will land on Xbox when they invest in one. But hey, there are deals and partnerships that need hashing out for certain titles,” Spencer casually mentioned.
“So, stay tuned. I won’t rush them. They gotta do their thing at their own speed.”
Despite Microsoft’s previous stance in the legal ring against the FTC, claiming that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 would never grace Xbox screens due to contractual obligations, Spencer now hints that there might be a glimmer of hope for Xbox players.
