In Japan, cybersecurity experts, also known as “white hat hackers”, are teaming up to take down illegal anime sharing on a global scale.
Cracking Down on Anime Piracy
Takayuki Sugiura from the National Hackers Association in Japan spilled the beans that cybersecurity experts are diving deep into the identity of piracy site operators, working hand in hand with the Japanese anti-piracy task force. This fruitful collaboration has led to legal actions and criminal charges being brought against offenders.
These experts play by the rules as they dig through public records to unmask the culprits behind these shady sites and pirated content. Their mission is not only to pinpoint where the illicit activities are happening, but also to reveal the faces behind the screens.
According to Sugiura, money talks when it comes to setting up a site, which leaves a trace that can be traced. But many operators slip up, leaving breadcrumbs that make it easier to track them down. The partnership between Japanese authorities has grown stronger in response to the increasingly clever tactics used to hide the identities of these cyber pirates.
Word on the street is that there’s a solid chance of nailing down the identity and whereabouts of the mastermind behind an illegal anime sharing site.
