Microsoft Gaming’s Price Increase Controversy
Microsoft Gaming has been making headlines after raising the prices of Game Pass for the third consecutive year, with some territories seeing nearly double the previous cost.
Subscribers Exempt from Price Increase
However, reports have surfaced in the past few hours of Game Pass Ultimate subscribers receiving a notification from Microsoft informing them that the price hikes do not apply to their subscription.
The message from Microsoft, shared on platforms like Reddit and ResetEra, was sent to subscribers in Europe and Asia to inform them that the price increases will not affect their account, as they are recurring subscribers, and this only applies to new accounts. As long as the subscription remains active, they will maintain the current prices, but if they cancel the service, they will have to pay the new price if they wish to return.
While this may suggest that only new subscribers will be subject to the new prices, others are receiving emails confirming the price hike and will now be paying the increased fees, causing confusion within the community.
Microsoft’s Confirmation
Microsoft has confirmed to TheVerge that the email received by Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in some countries is genuine, indicating that the Game Pass renewal in certain countries will continue at the previous price unless there is a break in the subscription.
Microsoft states that they are following “local requirements” by renewing the Game Pass at the previous price, but they will provide advance notice when adjusting prices in these countries.
