Black Ops 6 Emerges as Best-Selling Game in the US in October
In October, Black Ops 6 demonstrated the enduring popularity of the Call of Duty franchise by emerging as the best-selling game in the United States, despite being available directly on Game Pass. This achievement placed it ahead of other notable releases like Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero and Silent Hill 2. Notably, 82% of the revenue generated by Call of Duty on consoles came from PlayStation players.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero also enjoyed strong performance, becoming the best-selling Dragon Ball game of all time in the US and the third best-selling Bandai Namco game in the country. The Silent Hill 2 remake claimed the title of the second best-selling Silent Hill game, trailing only the original Silent Hill 2.
In a month filled with new releases, the top-selling list featured a variety of newcomers, with Metaphor: ReFantazio standing out as the fifth best-selling game. This title from Atlus surpassed established names like Dragon Age and Mario Party. Sonic x Shadow Generations also secured a spot among the top 10 best-sellers.
October witnessed a total spending of $4.2 billion in the video game industry, marking a 12% increase from October 2023. This growth was primarily fueled by digital game sales, which surged by 27% compared to the previous year.
Non-mobile gaming services also experienced a 16% growth in October 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, driven in part by the success of Game Pass, which featured the new Call of Duty title. Notably, Call of Duty ranked as the third best-selling game in the US in 2024.
Console sales exceeded 604,000 units in October, with the PS5 leading in both units sold and revenue generated, despite a 20% decline. The Xbox Series followed closely in second place, experiencing an 18% decrease in sales and revenue.
