Digital format continues to grow as the preferred format for Europeans to buy new games. When it comes to sales of games released in 2024 in Europe, the overwhelming majority are buying digital versions.
In the latest GamesIndustry podcast, it was revealed that digital format accounts for 75% of new game units sold in Europe throughout 2024, a 12% increase from 2023. However, there are differences in digital ratio among PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch players.
On Xbox consoles, 81% of new games were purchased in digital format, a 7% increase from 2023. On PlayStation consoles, the increase was 11% from 2023, reaching 68%. On the Nintendo Switch, 39% of new releases were purchased in digital format, a 1% decrease, but Nintendo titles are not included here.
