The Circana has released the list of the 20 best-selling games of all time for PlayStation in the United States, covering the period from January 1995 to July 2025. The ranking takes into account the complete sales of physical and digital games reported by the publishers participating in the company’s report, excluding hardware bundles with included software.
Top Selling Games
At the top of both lists, in terms of revenue and units sold, is Grand Theft Auto V, which continues to be one of the most important titles in the market for over a decade. Second place in terms of units belongs to Minecraft, followed by Red Dead Redemption II. In the revenue table, the second place went to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), while Red Dead Redemption II remains on the podium in third place. The presence of the Call of Duty series is the most obvious highlight: 11 titles appear in the top 20 by revenue (55% of the list) and 9 titles in the units list (45%).
Other noteworthy titles include various games from the Grand Theft Auto series, such as San Andreas and Vice City, as well as strong PlayStation franchises like Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and God of War (2018). The data not only reveals the weight of long-running series but also the importance of exclusives in building the catalog of each platform.
Interesting Data
The difference between the positions in the two lists is an interesting fact. Games like Minecraft have a huge volume of sales but rank lower in terms of revenue due to the lower average price per unit. On the other hand, games like Call of Duty rank higher in terms of revenue due to high launch prices and premium editions. The table confirms the dominance of some important franchises in the North American market on PlayStation and confirms the consistency of names like GTA and Call of Duty over three decades.
