Remake of Final Fantasy 9: Challenges and Possibilities
According to Naoki Yoshida, director of Final Fantasy 14 and producer of Final Fantasy 16, a potential remake of Final Fantasy 9 may not be feasible as a single game.
In a recent interview, Yoshida expressed his interest in a remake of Final Fantasy 3 when asked about the next game in the series that should receive a remake. However, he acknowledged the requests from fans for a new version of Final Fantasy 9.
“Oh, that’s a very difficult question. What I would like to do would be Final Fantasy 3, I think. Of course, I know there are requests for Final Fantasy 9 to be made, but when we think about Final Fantasy 9, it’s a game with a huge volume. When we think about all this volume, I wonder if it’s possible to remake it in a single title. It’s difficult. It’s a difficult question,” he stated.
Legacy of Final Fantasy 9
Final Fantasy 9 was originally released in 2000 for the original PlayStation. Directed by Hiroyuki Ito, it is considered one of the standout entries in the series.
The game received a re-release in 2010 as a PS1 Classic for PS3 and PSP, with Vita support following in 2012. In 2016, it was made available on mobile and PC platforms, and later on PS4 in 2017, and on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2019.
