The Cyberpunk universe creator, Mike Pondsmith, has revealed exciting news about the upcoming sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. In addition to the iconic Night City, the new game will feature a new city with a “Chicago gone wrong” atmosphere, promising a corrupt and decadent version of an American city.
During the Digital Dragons 2025 event, Pondsmith mentioned his limited involvement in the new game’s production but expressed his excitement and support for the project. While details about the new city remain undisclosed, Pondsmith assured fans that Night City will still play a significant role in the game, expanding the Cyberpunk world and adding geographical diversity.
Codename Project Orion, the new game is being developed by CD Projekt Red’s American studio, with teams in Boston and Vancouver. The leadership team includes key members from the original game and the Phantom Liberty expansion, along with industry professionals like Dan Hernberg. Job postings suggest that the team is working on innovative features, including advanced crowd behavior for a more realistic gaming experience.
With its American studio location, CD Projekt Red aims to bring an “authentically American” feel to the sequel, promising a fresh take on the Cyberpunk universe. Fans can expect an immersive and diverse world that builds upon the success of Cyberpunk 2077.
