Shuhei Yoshida leaves PlayStation to start new chapter
Shuhei Yoshida has worked at PlayStation since the early days of Sony’s gaming division. However, at the beginning of 2025, after several years as the main person in charge of indie relations, he left the company to start a new phase of his life.
Transition from PlayStation Studios to indie games
Since leaving PlayStation, where he held various roles, including head of PlayStation Studios (a time during which he became more famous and beloved among fans), Yoshida has been reflecting on his career. In his most recent interview with Gamesbeat, Yoshida confessed that he was practically forced to leave his position as head of PlayStation Studios.
Yoshida recently suggested that he was removed from the position of head of Sony’s internal studios because he opposed the focus on service games. In his conversation with Gamesbeat, he went further and stated it clearly, Jim Ryan didn’t give him a choice.
Yoshida’s mission and future plans
Yoshida says his mission was to show that, contrary to what was being said outside the company, PlayStation cared about indies. He believes that perception changed over his years in the position and he feels he accomplished his mission. However, now as an independent, he will continue to work with indie developers.
