The PlayStation Family app: A new tool for parents to monitor children’s gaming
Sony has recently unveiled a new feature designed for families with children who enjoy playing on PlayStation: the PlayStation Family app, now accessible on iOS and Android. The concept is straightforward – it offers parents a convenient way to keep track of their children’s gaming activities and screen time without constantly monitoring the television screen.
What does the app offer?
Within the app, parents can view a weekly summary of gaming time, monitor live gameplay through the Play Now feature, and establish monthly spending limits. While these tools don’t replace the existing parental controls on PS4 and PS5, they introduce a new monitoring function that can be managed on a smartphone, making it more accessible and flexible for parents.
Promoting conversations about gaming habits
Sony’s objective goes beyond limiting screen time – they aim to encourage open dialogues between parents and children regarding gaming habits. Additionally, the company has been exploring other initiatives, such as sending notifications for breaks and partnering with organizations like Save the Children Sweden as part of a broader digital safety campaign.
The PlayStation Family app is currently available for download on the App Store and Google Play, with plans for additional features to be included in the future.
