Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, believes that the alleged superhero movie fatigue can be addressed by reducing the number of movies produced. However, he also acknowledges that the success of DC Studios’ Superman raises doubts about this notion.
Feige stated that the key to combating superhero fatigue is to release fewer movies each year, with the possibility of producing anywhere from one to three films annually. He also mentioned scaling back to one live-action series per year. Despite this strategy, he pointed out that the enduring popularity of Superman demonstrates continued interest in superhero movies.
In a recent presentation, Feige shared his admiration for Superman, citing a conversation with James Gunn where the DC Studios director acknowledged the influence of Marvel Studios on the iconic character. Feige remains enthusiastic about the upcoming release of the Fantastic Four and the continued presence of superheroes on both the big screen and Disney+.
Reflecting on past successes such as WandaVision and Loki, Feige attributed the positive reception of these projects to Marvel Studios’ willingness to experiment with different storytelling approaches. However, he also acknowledged that the proliferation of characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe may have diminished its overall value.
Having achieved monumental success with Avengers: Endgame, Feige emphasized the importance of innovation and diversification in order to sustain momentum in the superhero genre. He emphasized the need to avoid complacency and continue exploring new creative avenues to keep audiences engaged and invested in the evolving Marvel universe.
