Team17 Facing New Layoffs Despite Recent Success
Team17 is the latest British developer and publisher to be on the list of companies laying off employees. Despite recent successful releases such as Dredge, Blasphemous 2, and Moving Out 2, the company is facing a new wave of layoffs, with even the CEO losing his job, according to sources from VG247 who chose to remain anonymous.
Challenges Leading to Layoffs
Employees were informed this morning that their jobs are at risk, but the list of people who will be let go has not been communicated yet. However, October will be the last month for many people at Team17, making it a difficult start to the week and month. An internal statement shared on the website informs employees of strong financial growth in the group in the first half of the year, attributed to a good and diverse game catalog, but there are numerous adverse factors causing difficult times.
Team17 mentions challenges such as too many high-quality games releasing at the same time and significant discounts applied to titles, which puts more pressure on the financial department. Quality control and marketing departments appear to be among the main focuses in this new wave of layoffs.
