Five years after its official announcement, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still in production, and Ubisoft has confirmed that the project is now in a more advanced stage of development. Although no new gameplay images or a specific release window have been revealed, the publisher reaffirms that the game is still on track and its arrival is planned for 2026.
Ubisoft’s Progress Update
In September 2020, the remake was first revealed and was initially set to be released in January 2021. However, after criticism of the initial presentation, the project underwent several changes. Ubisoft decided to transfer development from the Pune and Mumbai studios to the Montreal team, responsible for games like Assassin’s Creed, and restarted production.
Since then, information has been scarce. In 2023, Ubisoft confirmed that the game would not arrive before 2026. Now, a year later, they shared a brief update on social media, stating that production is “deeply underway” and the team is dedicated to building a new version faithful to the series’ legacy.
Ubisoft’s Future Plans
Ubisoft has faced various challenges in recent years, with cancellations, underwhelming results from some releases, and internal restructurings. In early 2025, the company announced a new division focused on its three biggest series, Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry, aiming to strengthen support for the development of iconic franchises like Prince of Persia.
