The Decline of Console Sales in Europe in 2024
In Europe, the sale of consoles continues to decline in 2024, despite a slight increase in the purchase of video games. In July, over 2.4 million physical and digital games were sold in Europe, representing a 3.4% increase compared to July 2023. Interestingly, only one game released in 2024 made it to the top 10 list, which was Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD for the Nintendo Switch.
Best-Selling Consoles and Games
The PS5 emerged as the best-selling console in Europe, even though it experienced a 56% decrease in sales compared to July 2023. Following closely behind was the Nintendo Switch, which saw a 29% drop in sales. The Xbox Series also experienced a decline in sales, with a 42% decrease compared to July 2023, securing the 3rd spot in the rankings. Overall, a total of 263,000 consoles were sold in July, marking a significant 46% drop compared to the same period in 2023.
Leading Games in Europe
Among the top-selling games in Europe, EA Sports FC24 stood out, surpassing FIFA 23 in popularity. Additionally, Hitman Absolution was made available for free on PC, further impacting its sales performance. EA Sports College Football 25, on the other hand, only managed to secure the 39th spot in the rankings. Despite the decline in console sales, the demand for video games remains relatively stable in the European market.
