Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Dominates October Sales Charts
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has soared to the top of the charts as the best-selling game in the United States during the month of October, according to data released by Circana (formerly NPD Group). The highly anticipated sequel not only clinched the title of sales champion, but also secured its place as the fourth best-selling game of the year. It surpassed major releases like Mortal Kombat 1, Diablo 4, Starfield, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Record Sales and Rankings
Sales in dollars during Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s launch month saw a double-digit percentage increase compared to the original game’s release in September 2018, although it’s worth noting that the sequel was released at a $70 price point.
Following closely in the rankings, Super Mario Bros. Wonder claimed the second spot among October’s best-selling games. However, it’s important to mention that Nintendo’s digital sales data is not included in these results, so the ranking is based solely on physical sales.
New Releases Making Waves
October saw a variety of releases making their mark on the charts, with Assassin’s Creed Mirage taking third place. The list was further enriched by highly impactful debuts like EA Sports UFC 5, NHL 24, Sonic Superstars, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, Forza Motorsport, and Lords of the Fallen, all achieving prominent positions in the top 20. These new titles not only diversified the available options but also caused significant shifts in the dynamics of the gaming charts.
On the hardware sales front, the PlayStation 5 emerged as the top-selling console in both dollars and units for the month of October. The Xbox Series X|S closely followed in dollar sales, with the Nintendo Switch occupying the second spot in unit sales. These rankings reflect the ongoing competition among the top gaming consoles in the market.
